What is it?
Controlled and monitored electrolytic dissolution of ionic Copper and ionic Silver into the water, by applying a low DC current between electrodes. The current will vary from 12VDC @ 3amps up to 100VDC @ 20 compatible with all water systems. Gas (compressed) Calcium Hypochlorite Sodium Hypochlorite Can also be made using good quality salt, potable water - electric power (electro chlorination) Mix of Potassium Chlorate and Hydrochloric Acid. Initially called Euchlorine Oxygen containing feed gas in an electrical discharge which is passed between electrodes charged at 20,000 volts. A pale blue gas with a distant pungent odour Wavelength of Ultra Violet light at 253.7 nanometers (nm) Hot water tank temperatures are elevated to greater than 70°C followed by a flushing of all taps and showerheads with hot water at 60°C for at least 30 minutes for the technique to be effective
First Use

Manufactured by ProCare since 1983.

Used by NASA since 1950

Known and used for over 2000 years.

1896 as an experiment in Kentucky 1908 for the Municipal Water Treatment New Jersey Produced by Sir Humphrey Davey early last century Used for the treatment of drinking water in France at the end of last century Known to kill micro organisms for over 100 years. Increasing the temperature of hot water was the first method to be used to control legionella in water distribution systems
Biocide Properties These metal alloys are very effective biocides. Copper is an excellent algaecides and silver is an excellent bactericide / vericide at very low concentrations. Copper from 0.2 to 0.4 ppm (parts per million) and Silver at 0.02 to 0.04 ppm. It is important to determine the resistance of viruses, bacteria and cysts to chlorine to set the correct dosage. It is now recognized that there is a wide variation in the susceptibility of various pathogens to chlorine It is claimed to be at least as effective as chlorine against E.coli after 30 minutes for similar concentrations In addition to its high germicidal effectiveness, it has the added advantage of being able to ameliorate odors, taste and color in water supplies Most forms of viruses and bacteria react to UV rays below wavelength of 300 nm. E.coli require an exposure of 7000 microwatt seconds/cm² for destruction Water temperatures greater than 60°C are inhibitory to legionella. Laboratory studies have shown that the time required to reduce a population of legionella by one log at 45°C, 50°C, 60°C, and 70°C was 2,500, 380, less than 5 and less than 1 minute.

Legionella Prevention and control Chemical free with 25 to 45 days for legionella control depending on the size of the system Will not penetrate the biofilm and re-colonisation will occur within a few weeks. Controls yet must be generated on-site with safety and handling protocols. Does not stay dissolved in hot water systems. Local treatment only. Will not treat biofilm. Will not treat all distal points and has no residual effect on Legionella. Will not penetrated the biofilm at 100%. Quick results depending on temperature. Re-colonisation within a few weeks unless repeated continually.

Residuals Has long term residual effect on all of the water systems including distal point and dead end pipes. Deviates quickly. Not effective at low levels More stable than Chlorine None None, very localized application In order to maintain effectiveness the temperature needs to be maintained at 60°C at all outlets otherwise recolonisation will occur
Logistics No transportation or storage problems Transportation and storage problems Transportation and storage problems Cannot be stored or transported because of short life Fragile equipment No transportation or storage problems
Public Image Scientifically and medically recognized as environment friendly to deliver safely treated water. A chemical threat tends to be noteworthy whilst benefit is taken for granted Similar to Chlorine. More acceptable because it occurs naturally in nature Very acceptable as it is harmless and non-chemical Not energy efficient and environment friendly
